Bantam Salmon and Blue
Salmon Faverolles
|
Bantam faverolles are some of the cutest,
sweetest little chickens around. They have a full beard and muff and
feathered feet. Hens weigh about 1.6 lbs at maturity and roosters weigh
about 1.9 lbs at maturity. Faverolles are rare in the US and are listed as
"critical" by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. The term "critical"
means: fewer than 500 breeding birds in the United States, with five or
fewer primary breeding flocks (50 birds or more), and globally endangered.
The bantam varieties are even more difficult to find than the standard
varieties. The males and females are easy to destinguish at an early age
because they are completely different colors. The only difference between
the blue salmon and salmon varieties is that where the salmon birds have
black, the blue salmon birds have blue. |
